Your pension scheme may refuse the request if the accident was not informed as soon as stipulated in your insurance contract. If they deny the request, then you are still responsible for the 2-year-old claim.

Yes, please contact your insurance and old age make you a copy of the letter as soon as possible. Do not talk to the other party until a lawyer or your insurance company.
